Discover the museums and heritage sites in Brabant
Van Gogh heritage sites have been established in Zundert, Nuenen and Etten-Leur. Visitors can begin their journey of discovery through Van Gogh’s world there. At Van Gogh House Zundert, the focus is on his early years and his family. In Etten-Leur, visitors witness the start of his career as an artist and his complex relationships. At the Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen, visitors discover his intense quest for colour and form, which led to his first masterpiece.

Vincent van Gogh House in Zundert
Where the story began
Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert on 30 March 1853. The Vincent van GoghHuis art centre stands on the site of his birthplace. An audio play takes visitors on a journey through his early years. Vincent was baptised in the nearby Van Gogh Church. The grave of the famous artist’s stillborn brother, who was also called Vincent, is located in the churchyard.

Van Gogh Etten-Leur
A master’s first steps
When Vincent was 28, he made an important decision: he wanted to follow his passion and become an artist. In 1881, he officially registered as an artist for the first time in Etten-Leur. It was also there that he set up his very first studio.

Set against the backdrop of *The Potato Eaters*
Nuenen was a very important place for Vincent. The years he lived here, from 1883 to 1885, were among the most productive periods of his life. It was also here that he painted his first masterpiece: *The Potato Eaters*. The Van Gogh Village Museum takes you back to that time.

Van Gogh Helvoirt
Where he lived
Vincent van Gogh and his family have a special connection with Helvoirt. His father was a minister here from 1871 to 1875. As well as Vincent’s parents, brothers and sisters, several other family members lived in this village: no fewer than 21! Find out more about Helvoirt and the Van Gogh family.

Vincent’s Drawing Room, Tilburg
Where he learnt to draw
Vincent van Gogh spent two years ‘boarding’ in Tilburg to attend the Rijks Hogere Burger School – the first HBS in Brabant. It was here that he received his first drawing lessons at the age of 13. Find out more about Tilburg.

The NoordBrabants Museum in ‘s-Hertogenbosch
Van Gogh in Brabant
The Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch is the only place in the south of the Netherlands where you can find original works by Van Gogh from his time in North Brabant. Admire, for example, the paintings of Gordina and the Collse Watermill, a location you can visit yourself.
