A comprehensive teaching pack for primary schools
The Van Gogh Sitses Foundation and Erfgoed Brabant have developed an engaging teaching pack for primary schools: ‘Brabants Kwartiertje met Van Gogh’. This pack contains teaching activities for lower, middle and upper primary years that align with the ‘Cultuur Loper’ indicators. ‘Brabants Kwartiertje met Van Gogh’ explores his life, family and his first steps on his artistic journey in Brabant. The activities are short and to the point and can be carried out individually or as part of a project day or project week.

Museum Treasures
The Van Gogh heritage sites and the Noordbrabants Museum offer fun programmes for younger visitors. The activities in the teaching pack provide excellent preparation for a visit to one of the exhibitions. Through Erfgoed Brabant, schools can take part in the successful ‘Museumschatjes’ project.
As part of the ‘Museumschatjes’ educational project, primary school pupils in Years 5 to 8 visit a museum as a class. They prepare for the museum visit at school using the teaching materials. What is heritage? Why is it important to preserve things? The pupils then set out to discover the value of museum treasures.

Vincent’s Light Lab

At Vincent’s Light Lab in the Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen, children can explore the effects of light and colour in a surprising way – just as Vincent van Gogh did in his day. The New Vincent
In 2013, Vincents Tekenlokaal took the initiative to develop a talent programme specifically for young people aged between 10 and 14, as there was little on offer for them in the field of drawing. The programme, which originated in Tilburg, has since been rolled out to other Van Gogh sites in Brabant: the Vincent van Gogh House in Zundert and the Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen. Etten-Leur may also join the programme in 2024.
Participants follow an intensive programme comprising drawing lessons, masterclasses and excursions. The aim of the programme is to experiment with all kinds of materials and techniques alongside like-minded peers.

Nuenen
Bring your class to Nuenen for free (even without the ‘Museumschatjes’!) and follow in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh Village Nuenen offers a range of educational programmes with free guided tours for primary and secondary schools. Children can also listen to conversations between Vincent and his brother Theo on the special youth audio tour. This allows them to learn about Van Gogh’s life in Nuenen in an accessible way!

Etten-Leur
The Van Gogh Church in Etten-Leur has a wonderful partnership with KOEPEL, the Marketplace for Culture and Nature Education. As part of this, the ‘Understand Vincent’ project is offered to Years 6, 7 and 8 of primary school. The pupils discover that Vincent’s relatively short stay in Etten had a significant influence on the rest of his life. They also visit the church.

Zundert
The Vincent van Gogh House offers a range of educational programmes for primary and secondary schools. Information for self-study, dissertations or school presentations can be found under ‘Resources’.

Den Bosch
At the Noordbrabants Museum, children and young people can discover more about the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. The new Van Gogh Gallery features original paintings and tells the story of Vincent’s time in Brabant.
Van Gogh colouring and drawing book
The Vincent van Gogh Colouring and Drawing Book is filled with hand-drawn illustrations in which Saskia van Oversteeg has drawn inspiration from the work, life and letters of Vincent van Gogh. Details from still lifes, buildings, trees, flowers and people – particularly from his Brabant period – have been drawn. She drew entire illustrations, but for some she left parts out, adding dotted lines or numbers. By drawing your own lines from dot to dot and from number to number, you can complete the illustration yourself and then colour it in. That way, you can create your very own Van Gogh! Great fun for yourself, but also to do with your child(ren)! The book is available in the shops at our heritage sites.
