Nuenen: This windmill was built during the period when Vincent lived and worked in Nuenen. Two months before he arrived in Nuenen, the body of the mill had collapsed during construction, resulting in a fatality. In August 1884, this so-called ‘bergmolen’ (hill mill) was put into operation. In 1887, the mill was also converted into an oil mill so that it could grind more than just grain. Vincent sketched the windmill amidst the cornfields no fewer than seven times.
