Van Gogh Salon

On 30 March, Vincent van Gogh’s birthday, Salon Van Gogh once again brought together key players from Brabant’s business community, public authorities and the cultural and nature sectors. The cultural networking event took place at the Noordbrabants Museum in ’s-Hertogenbosch and was organised by the Van Gogh Sites Foundation, Van Gogh National Park and Van Gogh Homeland.

Van Gogh Lecture: The Art of Silence

Under the title ‘The Art of Silence’, Prof. Dr Margriet Sitskoorn delivered the Van Gogh lecture. She demonstrated how our brains develop in relation to our environment, and how this shapes the way we experience art. Art and architecture can help us to pause for a moment and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

Margriet Sitskoorn explained: “We carry the entire history of our environmental past within our brains and, consequently, within our perception and aesthetic appreciation. This explains why we react to and interact with art and architecture in a particular way. If we fully understand the interaction between the brain and the environment, we can use art and architecture to evoke a sense of stillness within ourselves and reconnect with the world.”

Salon Van Gogh demonstrates the powerful connection between heritage, nature and mental wellbeing, and sets the tone for further exploration and collaboration. The next edition will take place on 30 March 2027.
