Free entry for all young people to the Van Gogh Village Museum thanks to ASML
In addition to the collaboration on Vincent’s Light Lab at the Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen, ASML is now also entering into a three-year partnership with the museum. Both parties aim to attract even more young visitors by offering free admission to children and young people up to the age of 17. The educational programme centred on Vincent’s Light Lab is also being further expanded. Through interactive activities, young people learn more about art and culture – in which Van Gogh plays a key role – and
At the same time, they learn about technology.
A year ago, Queen Máxima opened the refurbished Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen, featuring the brand-new Vincent’s Light Lab. “Technology, art and creativity come together in an experience specially developed for young people aged 9 to 16,” says museum director Simone van der Heiden. Drawing inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s unconventional and inquisitive approach and his perseverance, children discover for themselves the effects of colour and light. This is also where the parallel between ASML and Van Gogh lies. It’s all about light. For some, this means greater technical possibilities; for others, a better understanding of what light does to colour in a painting. ASML and Van Gogh Brabant, particularly in the Brainport region, joined forces in 2019. Light, Brabant and perseverance are quintessentially Vincent, and the same applies to ASML.
Free admission for young people up to the age of 17 From 1 July, children and young people – aged 0 to 17 – will no longer have to pay for admission to the museum. This also applies to children and young people visiting the museum as part of a school trip. A special programme is being developed for school visits. “We are putting our money where our mouth is. Young people can discover Vincent van Gogh’s inspiring story for themselves here in the museum, and in the Light Lab they learn about the interplay between technology and art. From the start of the new school year, we look forward to welcoming not only families but also many schools from the region,” said Van der Heiden.
In addition to the current audio tour for all visitors, a separate audio tour specifically designed for young people will soon be available. The close bond between Vincent and Theo van Gogh plays an important role in this. Carl Leen, Programme Manager for Social Engagement at ASML, says: “Van Gogh is one of the world’s most famous and inspiring figures from Brabant. As a Brabant-based company, we are proud to make a further contribution to the museum in Nuenen and to open it up to the next generation. Vincent van Gogh’s rebellious, innovative side is something valuable to cultivate in our region. It is this inquisitive attitude that we would like to instil in the children and young people of this area.”
