Lieshout: During his stay in Nuenen, Vincent regularly went out exploring. For example, he went with a young boy from Nuenen to watch a large heath fire, and he sketched and painted in the wider area with his friend Antoon Kerssemakers from Eindhoven. Vincent also immortalised ‘De Vogelenzang’, an old windmill dating from 1819. We can recognise the windmill in two drawings. In 1988, the same mill was also discovered in the X-ray image of a floral still life. Vincent painted a vase of daffodils over the mill.
