Nuenen: The Begemann family lived at Huis Nune Ville. When Vincent’s mother was recovering from a broken leg in 1884 and he was looking after her at home, one of the Begemann sisters, Margot, temporarily took over her sewing circle. Vincent and Margot fell in love, but their families opposed the relationship. Margot, who was already prone to anxiety, became so distraught by this that she took poison. Vincent took her to a doctor. Whilst she was recovering from this suicide attempt in Utrecht, he seriously considered marrying her. But it was never to be.
