1883–1885: Weavers’ Cottages

Nuenen: Only one of the many weavers’ cottages that once dotted Nuenen in Van Gogh’s time still survives. Built in 1763, it is now a listed building. It is a fine example of what the small cottages of Nuenen’s home weavers looked like. Vincent was fascinated by the poor weavers. He drew and painted them at work behind their looms.
