Nuenen: After a three-month stay in Drenthe, Vincent took the train to Nuenen at the end of 1883, where his father had been a minister since 1882. Of course, there were financial reasons, and Vincent had felt lonely in Drenthe, but his decision to go to Nuenen was primarily driven by his intention to become a true peasant painter. He was given the small laundry room as a studio, and his family installed a small stove and provided furniture. The vicarage garden was a regular subject of his drawings and paintings. His work was going well, but his return home reignited the old tensions between him and his father.
