Etten-Leur: Vincent sought his models close to home. Among them were Piet Kaufmann, his father’s gardener, and Lambregt Oostrijck, the deacon of the Reformed Church. The Protestant farmer Cornelis Schuitemakers, who lived on the Heike and received alms from Vincent’s father, sat as a model for, amongst other works, the drawing *Worn out* (*Uitgeput*). On a small map that Vincent drew together with his younger brother Cor, we can see where he found his models. The Claes family (labelled ‘Klaas’ on the map) lived in the sexton’s house at the time.
