Etten-Leur: After holding various jobs, Vincent, encouraged by his brother Theo, decided to become an artist and returned to his family home in Etten. He made a drawing of the vicarage that must have stood here. Vincent worked and slept in the annexe next to the house. He studied mainly from drawing manuals and life models. And he regularly worked outdoors. As always, he wrote to Theo about the literature and art that interested him. In Etten, he began writing about his progress as an artist and would sometimes include a sketch showing what he was working on at the time.
