1853–1869: The people of Zunderten on Van Gogh

Zundert: On the corner of the market square, opposite Hotel de Roskam, stood the village school. Vincent attended classes there from January to October 1861. However, he was taken out of school because his interactions with the village children apparently made him too rough. When Benno Stokvis enquired in the village in 1926, the villagers remembered him above all as a quiet and ordinary boy.
