Zundert: The grave of Vincent’s eldest brother, who was stillborn, can still be found in the churchyard. This occurred exactly one year before Vincent’s own birth. He wrote about this grave only once, in a letter to his former employer Tersteeg, following the death of the latter’s young daughter. Emotionally, that grave held little significance for Vincent. For him, the churchyard was more a place where he used to play as a child and where he enjoyed the peace and quiet. Next to the churchyard stand the old sexton’s house and a guest studio where contemporary art exhibitions are regularly held.
